Storyline

Years ago, Krypton was about to explode and Kal-El was sent to Earth to escape that fate. However, his older cousin, Kara, was also intended to accompany the infant as his protector. Unfortunately, Kara was accidentally diverted into the timeless Phantom Zone for years before finally arriving on Earth decades later and found by her cousin who had grown into Superman. Years later, Kara Danvers is a young professional adrift in a thankless job until a fateful crisis ignites a sense of purpose using Kryptonian powers she had long hidden. Inspired, Kara decides to emulate her cousin's superheroic ways, only to find her foster sister introducing her to the secret Department of Extra-Normal Operations, dedicated to fighting alien menaces including those Kara inadvertently led to Earth. Now with such help, the Maid of Might takes her place as Earth's newest champion with new friends and enemies challenging her world. Written by Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)

Trivia

David Harewood has stated that he was initially cast to play a straightforward version of Hank Henshaw for the pilot, with the possibility of the character turning into his villainous alter ego, Cyborg Superman at some point. However, while watching the completed pilot, one of the producers said that it was a shame that Harewood was already playing Henshaw, because he'd make a great J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter. This is what lead to the decision to make Henshaw really J'onzz in disguise, with the real Henshaw/Cyborg Superman appearing further down the track, also played by Harewood. See more »

You need to give an opportunity...
11 April 2016 | by ahmetkozanSee all my reviews

Keep in mind that some shows take a while to find themselves. Arrow had the same problem during its first season. Just give the show some time before making any drastic judgements.

If there's one things that the pilot has shown us, it's that the CW should handle all DC related TV. They clearly know what they're doing, what with Arrow, Flash and iZombie. CBS already failed with the 1990 version of the Flash, and if they don't do something they're going to kill Supergirl before the show gets a chance to get off the ground.

The pilot is cheesy, and ya there are plenty of screw ups, but the overall feel for the show is good. Again, just give the show some time. It may get better, it may get worse. The only way to find out is to watch and hope for the best. And at the end of the day, this still wasn't as bad as Man of Steel.

I know this is a rare female lead in a superhero show; but does female empowerment need to be referenced continually? Why can we not have a Ripley or a Sarah Connor where gender is secondary to a character fulfilling a role? 6/10
