Marvel’s Standalone Black Widow Movie Eyeing Female Directors, Including Cate Shortland

Australian helmer Cate Shortland is reportedly on Marvel’s radar for the standalone Black Widow movie, and so too are a number of prominent female filmmakers.

Deadline has the scoop, revealing that Marvel Studios is still in the process of whittling down its director shortlist for the pic. But one thing’s certain: the chosen candidate will be a woman, which is only fitting given that this particular McU prequel is all about Natalia “Natasha” Alianovna Romanova, one of the deadliest spies in the business.

Last we reported, the Powers That Be over at Marvel had met with no less than 65 possible candidates for Black Widow, so today’s scoop from Deadline is more of a status update than anything else. Whether Cate Shortland winds up landing the gig is another question entirely, but her indie credentials certainly fit with Marvel’s M.O., given the studio recently rolled the

Jeff Goldblum would love to star in a Grandmaster solo film

Actor Jeff Goldblum has said that he would love to be in a Grandmaster solo movie.

With the grandness of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe and the rampant demand for more movies, there will surely be plenty of new solo McU films for fans to enjoy in the near future.

Taking already popular characters from the franchise and shining the spotlight on them in their own film is always an option, but what about giving one of the strangest characters in the McU his own outing?

Goldblum was tailor-made for his role in Thor: Ragnarok as the Grandmaster and during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via ComicBook.com), the host told Goldblum: “I would love to see the Grandmaster have a whole movie.”

“I would, too,” Goldblum responded. “I love all those guys at Marvel and Kevin Feige but the director of that, Taika Waititi, he’s a genius!

Jeff Goldblum Would Love To Do A Grandmaster Solo Movie In The McU

Thor: Ragnarok arguably has the most colorful cast of any entry in the McU. Everyone in the threequel is fighting to chew more of the screen than anyone else. There’s Thor himself, Loki, Valkyrie, Hela, Korg, Skurge and, last but not least, the Grandmaster, the ruler of Sakaar brought to life by the one and only Jeff Goldblum. As his fate was left open-ended at the end of the film, it’s totally possible that the character could return, and it seems the actor would definitely be up for more.

While promoting his role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Goldblum went on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the chat soon turned to the actor’s recent appearance in the Marvel universe. Kimmel expressed his desire to see Goldblum get his own spinoff movie as the Grandmaster and asked the star if this is something he’d be interested in as well.

First Shazam Trailer to Strike Down at Comic-Con?

The upcoming DC movie Shazam! is currently slated to release in April 2019, but no promotional work has been released just yet for the movie. Fortunately, DC fans may get their first glimpse of the movie next month at San Diego Comic Con.

James Wan, who is directing Aquaman, which releases in December, revealed that the first trailer for his aquatic superhero movie will also debut at San Diego Comic Con. DC tends to try to release more than one trailer at San Diego Comic Con every year, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see a Shazam! trailer release as well. DC has made a tradition of making a huge splash at San Diego Comic Con every year, with a number of huge announcements, in addition to the trailers. Considering that Marvel Studios will be absent from the Comic Con this year, there will certainly be a gap that DC

Benicio Del Toro Thinks the Collector Survived Infinity War

Benicio Del Toro Thinks the Collector Survived Infinity War
Actor Benicio Del Toro, who has played the Collector in a number of McU movies, has theorized that his character actually survived the events Avengers: Infinity War. While Del Toro has no appearances confirmed for upcoming Marvel movies, he still remains hopeful for his future in the franchise.

Benicio Del Toro made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2013 in Thor: The Dark World, and then returned a year later in Guardians of the Galaxy. It looked as though we had seen the last of the Collector for four years, until Del Toro finally returned to Marvel earlier this year in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Collector was briefly shown in a sequence in Infinity War where he was being interrogated by Thanos, but it was all revealed to just be an illusion by Thanos using the Reality Stone. The illusion revealed that Thanos had already completely decimated the Collector's museum,

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger Season 1 Episode 3 Review – ‘Stained Glass’

Red Stewart reviews the third episode of Cloak & Dagger

Surrealism is a hard genre to breach. While presenting an opportunity to experiment with the typical molds for linear storytelling, too often it is used as an excuse by pretentious directors to create something that stands out in the arthouse market. But when it is done right, it can create some of the best pieces of work that the world has ever seen. For example, though I personally find it to be a bit too much of a Daffy Duck torture porn, the Warner Bros. cartoon Duck Amuck is widely considered to be a timeless masterpiece from the Looney Tunes canon.

This week’s episode of Cloak and Dagger tried to create a surreal atmosphere for its characters, but unfortunately ended up hitting a disappointing middle ground between something like Duck Amuck and avante-garde indulgence. When we last left off,

Benicio Del Toro Is Into Jeff Goldblum's Collector-Grandmaster Movie Idea

Benicio Del Toro Is Into Jeff Goldblum's Collector-Grandmaster Movie Idea
Benicio Del Toro would like to see the Collector and Grandmaster team up within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When we last saw Del Toro's Collector in Infinity War, his fate was left unclear. When part of the Guardians of the Galaxy went to Knowhere, Thanos used the Reality Stone to lure them into a trap. The Collector disintegrated when reality set in, but we're not sure what happened to him exactly. However, Benicio Del Toro has pretty much confirmed that the Collector survived while admitting that it would be an honor to work with his McU brother Jeff Goldblum, who plays the Grandmaster.

Earlier this week, Jeff Goldblum revealed that the Grandmaster survived the events of Infinity War. We last saw the character at the conclusion of Thor: Ragnarok, but much like his brother the Collector, it was not clear what happened to him at the end of Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War Writers Explain How Previous McU Movies Changed Their Plans

Avengers: Infinity War must have been the most challenging movie to script for writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Not only did they have to juggle a ridiculous amount of superheroes and make sure Thanos lived up to all the hype, but they also had to spin a story out of whatever the previous McU entries had left them with.

Given that, they must have harbored a few resentments that certain films had left them with more work to do in order to fit everything on the board, right? That’s the question host Kevin Smith put to the duo when speaking with them on his podcast recently. But as McFeely says, it’s best not to dwell on details like that.

“No, because then I’m gonna have to, Monday morning, quarterback other filmmakers and other films to say, ‘It would have been nice if you had done X,

Incredibles 2 Sets New Thursday Box Office Record with $18.5M

Incredibles 2 Sets New Thursday Box Office Record with $18.5M
Disney Pixar's animated sequel Incredibles 2 got off to a great start on Thursday night by setting a new box office record in a rather commanding fashion. Incredibles 2 earned an impressive $18.5 million from Thursday screenings, which is more than double the previous record of $9.2 million, set in 2016 by another Disney Pixar animated sequel, Finding Dory. Many box office analysts predicted that Incredibles 2 would beat Finding Dory's $135 million record for the highest animated movie debut, which seems even more likely now.

While the $18.5 million tally falls short of superhero blockbusters Deadpool 2 ($18.6 million), Black Panther ($25.2 million) and Avengers: Infinity War ($39 million), it did fare better than other recent hits. Incredibles 2's tally bested Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million), Spider-Man: Homecoming ($15.4 million) and Thor: Ragnarok ($14.5 million). Our summer movie box office predictions from last month put Incredibles 2 opening weekend at $138.1 million, which is just short of the
