Ballers: Season Four Ratings

Last year, HBO gave its Ballers TV show the gift of a Game of Thrones lead-in for most of the season. As a result, Ballers' Nielsen ratings increased by more than 50% in both the demo and total viewership. In the fourth season, the cheese stands alone, or at least without the winds of Westeros at its back. Will its audience return or fade away? Will Ballers be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned.

An HBO comedy-drama, Ballers stars Dwayne Johnson, Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, London Brown, Jazmyn Simon and Brittany S. Hall. The series follows former superstar Spencer Strasmore (Johnson), who has re-invented himself as a financial adviser for both young phenoms and veteran superstars. Spencer's role in his clients' lives far exceeds money management as he struggles to help them navigate

Insecure: Season Three Ratings

Last year, the Nielsen ratings for the Insecure TV show on HBO grew by leaps and bounds, maybe in part because it followed Game of Thrones and Ballers. While the epic fantasy drama won't be back this summer, the comedies are still paired together. Can they maintain their audience when not backed by the power of the Iron Throne? Will Insecure be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.

An HBO comedy, Insecure stars Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Lisa Joyce, Jay Ellis, Y’lan Noel, Natasha Rothwell, and Amanda Seales. The series follows best friends Issa (Rae) and Molly (Orji). The duo tries to deal with their own real-life flaws, even as they attempt to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. Rae also co-created the series with Daily Show vet Larry Wilmore.

John David Washington on Getting Called the N-Word and Moving Beyond the Shadow of Denzel

John David Washington on Getting Called the N-Word and Moving Beyond the Shadow of Denzel
John David Washington remembers the first time someone called him the n-word. He was in Newton, North Carolina, where his mother has family. “I was 10 years old,” the actor said in a recent interview, to promote Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman,” which marks the actor’s first lead role. “It was at this big parade they have there. He was a grown person, and he said it so casually. I didn’t feel anger. I didn’t how to feel at first. He was like, ‘Hey there.’ So casual. I only felt enraged later. Then, I wanted to kill him.”

That admission struck a marked contrast to much of Washington’s crowded press tour for the Cannes-acclaimed movie, in which he’s been flooded with more questions about his famous dad — Denzel Washington, one of the biggest movie stars in the world — than the actor’s own relationship to the material.

‘Insecure’ Showrunner Tells Us Why Issa Didn’t Rap in Season 3 Premiere — And All About Her Lyft Driving

‘Insecure’ Showrunner Tells Us Why Issa Didn’t Rap in Season 3 Premiere — And All About Her Lyft Driving
Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Insecure” Season 3, Episode 1

Season 3 of “Insecure” finds Issa (Issa Rae) feeling… well, insecure.

Showrunner Prentice Penny (who also directed the Season 3 premiere episode) spoke with TheWrap about how Issa’s new living situation is cramping her style — and her rap habits.

In the episode, Issa is living with Daniel (Y’Ian Noel) — you know, the guy she cheated on Lawrence (Jay Ellis) with. There’s a moment where we see her gazing at the spot above the bathroom sink where a mirror should be, but it’s just a mirror-less medicine cabinet. That’s our first hint that Issa’s out of her element. There is a small hand mirror hanging on the side wall, and she’s about to start — but Daniel walks in.

‘Insecure': Issa Rae Says ‘Life Without Lawrence’ Is ‘True to Life’ in Season 3
Sorry, “Insecure” fans, but it looks like the trailer for Season 3 didn’t leave out Lawrence (Jay Ellis) by accident.

Speaking with Vulture, creator Issa Rae said that it’s more “true to life” to keep the story-line pretty Lawrence-free for the upcoming season.

“We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations,” she said. “You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”
