Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer, is on probation after carrying out an unauthorized operation in Iraq. As a result, she has been reassigned to the Counter terrorism center. Whilst in Iraq, she was warned that an American prisoner had been turned by Al-Qaeda. When Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Sergeant, is rescued after being held hostage since 2003, she suspects that he is the one. While Brody is received home as a war hero, Carrie goes to any lengths necessary to catch him out.

Did You Know?
Graffiti artists employed to create slogans for a refugee camp in Season 5 actually wrote anti-Homeland slogans such as "Homeland is a joke, and it didn't make us laugh" on the set in protest at the show's portrayal of Muslims.
The show's creator Alex Ganza commented that Homeland always strives to be subversive in its own right and a stimulus for conversation and that he couldn't help but admire this act of artistic sabotage. See more
Brody and other US Marines are referred to multiple times as "soldiers", including by a character who claims he was with a UDT (underwater demolition team, a "sister" team to the Navy SEALs who have to pass the same training). It's a point of pride among US Marines that they are marines, not soldiers. Brody refers to the UDT character as a soldier. As Naval personnel, he would be a sailor. See more
