Storyline

In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. Written by Suzanne Collins

Goofs

During the speech from an instructor before the tributes commence their training, Glimmer can be seen to have a pimple on her right cheek, near her chin. This is gone when she is on with Caesar Flickerman, but it could have been covered with makeup. When Katniss is chased up a tree, Glimmer can be seen without the pimple on her cheek, but she has one on her throat, right under her chin, where she didn't have one before. Then, when she laughs at Cato by the campfire, she has a pimple on her right cheek again. See more »

Quotes

Caesar Flickerman: Yes, yes.
Seneca Crane: ...but it's been the way we're able to heal.

Alternate Versions

A rough cut of the film was submitted to the BBFC in the UK for an advisory screening, a process used by filmmakers to see how likely a film will obtain a certain rating. The BBFC explained a 12A rating would be likely if the violence was toned down. Four scenes were changes, removing bloody violence, threat and a scene of injury. These included the use of alternate footage and the digital removal of blood. When the finished film was submitted to the BBFC for a formal classification, the BBFC stated that more cuts would be needed in order to secure the 12A. Blood splashes were digitally removed from both impacts to bodies and blood on blades of weapons, achieved through the darkening of certain shots and by digitally erasing blood from the image. The BBFC then gave the film a 12A rating for cinema release. This pre-cut version was released on DVD in the UK with a 12 rating. However, the US PG-13 version was submitted to the BBFC for the UK Blu-ray release, which was classified '15' uncut. See more »

Battle Royale made by Hollywood
26 March 2012 | by richard_london_1977See all my reviews

Before I start, I've not read the 3 books associated with this film.

I watched The Hunger Games on the weekend, and it's an OK movie edited for kids. Suzanne Collins denies any knowledge of Battle Royale, but the duplication is embarrassing. As the phrase goes, "there's nothing new in Hollywood" and this is evident throughout this film from start to finish.

Please watch the original Battle Royale which is 1000% times better than this, watered down, made to make millions Hollywood creation.

This film does not deserve the hype surrounding it, but I just hope the millions this film generates is funnelled into some new and exciting not the same crap often expected from Hollywood.
