13 Movie Reboots With Gender-Swapped Leads, From ‘His Girl Friday’ to ‘What Men Want’ (Photos)
From lady “Ghostbusters” to talk of a female James Bond, Hollywood has taken a shine to remaking classic movies or TV shows with gender-swapped leads as a way of mixing up a tried and true formula. But the trend dates back farther than to just the last few years. The latest example of this is “What Men Want” opening Friday, which swaps out Mel Gibson for Taraji P. Henson. But here are some other movies that looked to remake something old with not just a fresh face but from an entirely different point of view.

His Girl Friday” (1940)

Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell move a mile a minute and have a natural chemistry as reporters Walter Burns and Hildy Johnson in Howard Hawks’s screwball comedy classic “His Girl Friday.” But missing from its source material, both the play and the movie “The Front Page” by playwright Ben Hecht, is

Ghostbusters 3 news came thick and fast last month, yet amidst the many revelations was a continuing uncertainty about which of the series’ original cast members could be reprising their roles.

They confirmed that the movie is definitely being made, because you know there’s always been rumors with Ghostbusters the last 30 years. What that’ll look like, they did not share.”

The upcoming sequel/reboot will see Jason Reitman follow in the footsteps of his father,

‘What Men Want’ Film Review: Taraji P. Henson Hilariously Shatters the Glass Ceiling

‘What Men Want’ Film Review: Taraji P. Henson Hilariously Shatters the Glass Ceiling
It’s hard to believe that after more than 20 years in Hollywood, Taraji P. Henson (“Hidden Figures”) is only just now headlining her first big-screen comedy, but here we are. Director Adam Shankman’s “What Men Want” is the latest in a long line of gender- and race-swapping remakes (“Ocean’s 8” and “Ghostbusters” are a few others) that Hollywood has determined to make its new cash cow.

So on the one hand, it’s great that Henson has this major vehicle that will hopefully catapult her to the status she deserves. But on the other hand, an actress of her caliber should also be entitled to an original franchise of her own.

All that aside, “What Men Want” is a classic example of a film that is amplified by the climate in which it’s born. Contrary to the original 2000 film starring Mel Gibson — which sees him as a sexist

Kevin Smith Says Ghostbusters 3 Is Going To Make A Lot Of People Happy

It was only last month when we learned that Jason Reitman was at work on Ghostbusters 3, but it’s felt much longer than that given all the drama that’s unfolded since, as the simmering tension around the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot bubbles back up to the surface.

Among those who took to social media to voice their thoughts on the next installment in the franchise was comedian, actress, and reboot-era Ghostbuster Leslie Jones, who thinks that Sony going back to the original continuity is “a dick move” and “like something Trump would do.” Predictably, Jones’ comments received a fair amount of backlash online, prompting Ghostbusters 2016 director Paul Feig to step in on social media and show his support for her.

Since then, the controversy surrounding the project hasn’t exactly died down, but if Kevin Smith’s to be believed, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about here. The filmmaker revealed

Here Comes Hell is to receive its world premiere at Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow. Excited or what?

It’s amazing! I made this movie for people like me, people who like horror movies and crazy genre films. It’s the perfect place to premiere this kind of movie, as horror audiences are the most open minded movie-goers, they’re not turned off by low budgets or films made by first time directors. They just want an exciting cinematic experience.

The film started life as a Kickstarter campaign. Were you pleased with the outcome?

Groundhog Day Is Getting a Vr Game Sequel, Watch the Trailer

Groundhog Day Is Getting a Vr Game Sequel, Watch the Trailer
Groundhog Day is an undisputed comedy classic. It never got a sequel, because frankly, it didn't need one. But we have been treated to a number of movies throughout the past couple decades since its release, that use the concept of having to relive the same day over and over again. And most have been successful, including Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow, the Blumhouse horror franchise Happy Death Day and the current Netflix hit Russian Doll. But someone, somewhere decided that Groundhog Day does need a sequel. Only it won't be a movie this time around.

Groundhog Day 2, if you can call it that, will be a virtual reality game set in the same universe as the Bill Murray original. It was created by Tequila Works in partnership with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality. Groundhog Day: Like Father, Like Son follows Phil Connors Jr., the son of Bill Murray and

‘Groundhog Day’ Sequel in Works — But It’s a VR Game, Not a Movie
Groundhog Day” is getting a sequel, but it’s not a movie — it’s a virtual reality game being developed by Tequila Works in partnership with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality.

“Groundhog Day: Like Father, Like Son,” drops players into a reoccurring day in the life of Phil Connors Jr., the son of the eventually affable Phil Connors and Rita Hanson from the 1993 film. As with the movie, the game has the player stuck in a single day, trapped in Connors’ home in Punxsutawney until the son, like the father did before him, learns the value of friends and family.

The game is Sony Pictures Virtual Reality’s first foray into branching narratives and interactive storytelling in a VR game. What it isn’t is some sort of preamble or marketing ploy for a film sequel.

“We are not developing a new ‘Groundhog Day’ movie,” Jake Zim, senior vice president of the Sony Pictures VR group,

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins wants more DC solo movies rather than Justice League 2

Given the critical and commercial success of 2017’s Wonder Woman, there have been calls for Warner Bros. to enlist filmmaker Patty Jenkins if and when the studio reassemble its DC Extended Universe heroes for a sequel to Justice League.

During an interview with THR, Jenkins – who is currently in post production on the Amazon Princess’ second solo outing Wonder Woman 1984 – was asked about her interest in helming Justice League 2. And, while she refused to rule out the possibility, she went on to state that she’d prefer Warner and DC Films continue to focus on solo adventures.

“The Justice League movie, I find those movies to be extremely challenging. I think they are fantastic when they are well done,” said Jenkins. “But taking on all of those characters at the same time in the timeline. … I sort of hope that we don’t do a Justice League movie for

While the film doesn’t arrive until 2020, that hasn’t stopped Jenkins from hyping up the movie in a recent interview with Deadline at Sundance Film Festival:

Chris Pine doesn’t expect Steve Trevor to return for Wonder Woman 3

Now, he probably said the same thing after the first movie given his character’s fate, but Wonder Woman star Chris Pine has revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t expect his character Steve Trevor to appear in Wonder Woman 3.

“I think Steve’s done,” said Pine, who reprises his role for next year’s sequel Wonder Woman 1984. “I think Steve’s done his bit. I wish them all the luck in the world.”

As yet, it hasn’t been confirmed just how Steve Trevor is alive (and hasn’t aged) in the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel, although director Patty Jenkins has said that his return “makes perfect sense”.

However, with Jenkins suggesting that Wonder Woman 3 will have a contemporary setting, one would have to assume that Pine will indeed be absent from the third movie, seeing as it’s pretty clear from Justice League and the present

Wonder Woman 3 will have a contemporary setting, says Patty Jenkins

A few days ago, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins revealed that she already had some “pretty clear plans” for the Amazon Princess’ third solo outing, and now the filmmaker has revealed to THR that unlike the first two movies, Wonder Woman 3 will have a contemporary setting.

“I’m not set, but I’m not doing another period piece,” said Jenkins. I’m not planning to put it in the past again, because where are you going to go? You have to go forward. It’s definitely a contemporary story. That’s all I can say. Where we put it and how that gets figured out, I haven’t totally nailed down.”

Of course, it’s a little too early to start thinking about a third film, what with the second almost a year and a half out from its release. However, let us know in the comments
