Why Elisabeth Moss Deserves More than ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ (Column)
Elisabeth Moss has a long talk with a somewhat less-than-present conversation partner, to which Moss herself brings a certain wired tension. Her physical posture, upright even as her voice frays with exhaustion, indicates as much as do her words a new resolve to do better than she’s done as a caretaker. Having run out of things to say to a person about whom she holds complicated feelings, Moss finds in memory a piece of music to communicate a love and a passion it can be almost unbearably painful to admit. With limited instrumental backing and in an unbroken shot

‘Westworld’ Season 3 to Pull Back on Too Many Mysteries: ‘It’s Less of a Guessing Game’

HBO left “Westworld” fans equally awed and confused when the first Season 3 trailer debuted in March without any of the locations or characters that have become the show’s trademarks. The one-and-a-half minute clip felt less like “Westworld” and more like a radical “Westworld” reboot as it introduced Aaron Paul’s new character making his way around various locations in future Los Angeles. According to creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the major setting change won’t be the only thing that feels different in “Westworld” Season 3.

“This season is a little less of a guessing game and more of an experience with the hosts finally getting to meet their makers,” Nolan told Entertainment Weekly. “I love shows that find a groove and hang with it for 100 episodes — that was never this show. We always wanted every season to find our characters in radically different circumstances. And with a cast this talented,

The Most Underrated TV Shows You’ll Be Glad You Watched – IndieWire Critics Survey

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.

This week’s question: If you could pick one show – old or current – that you could champion/discuss more, but haven’t for whatever reason, what would it be? Why?

Ben Travers (@BenTTravers), IndieWire

Tuesday’s Emmy nominations make the answer much simpler than I would’ve hoped: “Better Things.” Pamela Adlon’s excellent FX comedy is made with such a potent combination of artistry and heart. Each piece is carefully crafted, from Adlon’s sweeping direction to the intimate vignette storytelling to the sparkling soundtrack to each individual performance and more. There are so many layers here, sliding in so smoothly one on top of the other, you don’t realize just how rich the personalities, story arcs, and overall experience is until you spend time with the series. While never a ratings juggernaut,

Nearly half of the show’s Live+35+digital 18-49 rating came from non-linear sources, the second biggest behind “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” another show saved from the dead.

‘Morning Joe’ Airs Archival Footage Linking Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump

President Donald Trump told reporters recently that he hasn’t spoken to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein in more than a decade and that he was “never a fan” of the one-time banking wunderkind and accused sex-trafficker. But footage aired Wednesday morning on “Morning Joe” appears to suggest some of what Trump said wasn’t accurate.

The footage shows Trump and Epstein conversing, ogling women and laughing during a party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

The footage was found in tapes from “A Closer Look,” a daytime news program that was hosted by former NBC News anchor Faith Daniels starting in 1991. The program,

‘Veronica Mars’ Team Talks Leaning Into Noir Mystery for Hulu Series

After three seasons on broadcast television in the mid-aughts, followed by a fan-funded feature film, “Veronica Mars” is heading to Hulu with an eight-episode standalone season and, most importantly, a new mystery.

“I don’t want it to be a nostalgia show,” creator Rob Thomas tells Variety. “Kristen [Bell] says she would do it until it’s ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ and my feeling is for us to survive in that way, more and more episodes have to be about the mystery — about Veronica as a detective — and less of the soap opera personal life.”

Thomas and Bell both say they consider
