Julie Chen Bows Out Of ‘The Talk’ In A Taped Message, Surprising No One
CBS daytime show The Talk is now free to discuss the ongoing #MeToo movement without walking on eggshells; show Den Mom Julie Chen announced she is leaving, effective immediately.

“I have been at The Talk since the day it started nine year ago,” Chen said in a message that viewers were told had been recorded on Big Brother’s set moments earlier. Chen has not been seen on The Talk since Season 9 began on September 10.

While saying The Talk cast, crew and staff had become “family to me,” she explained, “right now I need to spend more time at home with my husband and our young son. So I have decided to leave The Talk.”

Netflix Is Turning Nickelodeon’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Into a Live-Action Series
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is coming back, thanks to Netflix.

The streamer announced Tuesday that it will produce a reimagined live-action series based on the Nickelodeon cartoon “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” from original series’ creators Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko. The two will serve as showrunners and executive producers on the project.

The new series will be created in partnership with Nickelodeon and will start production in 2019.

The original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” aired for three seasons and 61 episodes from 2005 to 2008 on Nickelodeon. The story follows the adventures of Aang and his friends, who must save the world by defeating Fire Lord Ozai and ending the destructive war with the Fire Nation.

The cartoon has been adapted into a comic book and graphic novel series and the 2010 live-action feature film, “The Last Airbender,” directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Bodyguard” is going global with Netflix. It has set ratings alight in the U.K., where it airs on the BBC and is the biggest new drama series for a decade, and will now launch internationally on the Svod platform.

The drama starring Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) and Keeley Hawes (“The Missing”) is made by ITV-owned shingle World Productions. Madden plays David Budd, a war veteran-turned-cop, assigned to protect a senior politician, Julia Montague, played by Hawes.

The opening episode on flagship channel BBC One won a 40.9% share and generated a huge consolidated viewing figure of 10.4 million. In the coveted 16-34 demographic, it won 1.2 million viewers. That made it the biggest drama launch on any network in recent memory in Britain.

Viacom CEO Bob Bakish steered clear of talk about a possible merger with CBS but was more expansive at an event with reporters Tuesday on how the mega-mergers and the rise of digital giants in the media world would work in his company’s favor.

Having decided to jettison reality series “Big Brother,” Channel 5 is getting properly into the U.K. drama business, with a slate of new scripted titles including a prison drama, a crime thriller, and a murder mystery. The free-to-air network has traditionally majored in unscripted and entertainment, complemented by a lineup of acquired drama, much hailing from from the U.S.

Channel 5 has now made its biggest move into scripted under the ownership of Viacom, which bought the free-to-air broadcaster in 2014. It includes a three-year deal with production and distribution group Kew Media, which will sell several of the new shows internationally.

Following its international rollout in June, YouTube Premium has launched a raft of new originals in France and Germany.

The ad-free subscription service’s first French originals are “Groom” and “Troublemakers” (“Les emmerdeurs”). “Groom” centers on the son of a wealthy hotelier who must become a bellboy to reclaim his inheritance. “The comedy follows the life of a grand hotel where internal wars, romantic relationships and a total lack of professionalism often put the welfare of hotel guests on the back burner,” according to YouTube’s description.

Loki Series Starring Tom Hiddleston Eyed at Disney's Streaming Service

Disney is bringing in more of its big guns for its upcoming streaming service. The studio is developing a number of standalone series centered on key supporting characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe — most notably Tom Hiddleston‘s antihero Loki, Variety reports. Disney is also said to be eyeing a series centered on Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch. Both Hiddleston and Olsen would reprise their roles in the prospective small-screen projects.
