‘Othello’ Theater Review: Corey Stoll Makes Iago a Mesmerizing Villain

‘Othello’ Theater Review: Corey Stoll Makes Iago a Mesmerizing Villain
You almost have to feel sorry for Chukwudi Iwuji, the talented British actor who plays the title role in “Othello” in the Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production that opened Monday.

He delivers a confident performance in an exquisite revival of the Bard’s classic tragedy, infusing the tragic Moor with both the cockiness of a war hero and the lustiness of a man who has wooed a woman seemingly above his station but whose ardor is very much at the forefront of his thoughts.

Like so many Othellos before him, though, Iwuji is ultimately upstaged by a truly brilliant performance by Corey Stoll as the duplicitous Iago. Stealing a page from his former “House of Cards” co-star Kevin Spacey, Stoll delivers a portrait of evil at its most charming and, dare I say, appealing.

Tiffany Haddish’s Best Jokes From the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards
Tiffany Haddish became the first black woman to host the MTV Movie and TV Awards on Monday, kicking off her gig with a riff on another one of last year’s breakout stars, Cardi B.

The “Girls Trip” star opened the show with an impressive parody of Cardi’s hit single “Bodak Yellow,” spitting lyrics about her “money movies” and “rented shoes.” For the performance, Haddish borrowed Cardi’s look from her recent “Saturday Night Live” performance, including quaffed updo, ruffled Christian Siriano gown, and — after a gag about Michael B. Jordan’s sex appeal being enough to impregnate women solely through eye contact — a faux baby bump to match.

Haddish also followed on decades of awards show tradition, delivering a brash monologue razzing the stars and nominees in the room. From Kris Jenner to Chris Pratt, few attendees made it out unscathed — or, as was the case for the men in the room,

Daytime Emmys Boycott Called After ‘Bulls—‘ Decision to Strip Actresses of Award (Exclusive)

The drama behind the scenes of the Daytime Emmys is getting as juicy as the soaps they honor.

Emmy-nominated producer Michael Caruso, Emmy-winning director and producer Sonia Blangiardo and Emmy-winning actress and producer Crystal Chappell told TheWrap that they “are not willing to participate in future Emmy competitions” until NATAS agrees to an outside audit of all submission reels in the digital series category and clears up the underlying issues about submissions.
