Independent Spirit Awards 2018: ‘Get Out’ has best odds for Best Picture, but our top users are backing ‘Call Me by Your Name’
The Shape of Water” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” have emerged as the top two contenders for Best Picture at the Oscars, but even though both were eligible at the Independent Spirit Awards they were left out of top category at those kudos (“Shape of Water” was snubbed across the board). That opens the door the Jordan Peele‘s horror satire “Get Out,” which currently leads with 5/6 odds. But our top users think “Call Me by Your Name” actually has the advantage.

Our racetrack odds are based on the combined predictions of more than 1,600 users who have entered their Spirit Awards picks at Gold Derby thus far. That includes eight Expert journalists we’ve polled from top media outlets, seven of whom agree that “Get Out” will win: Edward Douglas, Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily), Anne Thompson (IndieWire), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.
