This Theory About Mary Poppins and Bert's Relationship Will Completely Change Your Childhood

  • Popsugar
Most of us are familiar with the classic story of Mary Poppins, but what about the nanny's life before she tended to the Banks children? While little is known about her past, it's pretty clear that Mary has been to Cherry Tree Lane before. Not only is she familiar with the town, but she's awfully friendly with the chimney sweep, Bert. Though the state of Mary and Bert's relationship has always been a little fuzzy, a popular theory has recently resurfaced ahead of Mary Poppins Returns explaining their interesting bond: Mary Poppins (played by Julie Andrews in the original and Emily Blunt in the sequel) was actually Bert's nanny when he was a kid.

In the very beginning of the film, Bert sets the story by telling the audience, "Wind's in the East/Mist coming in/like something is brewing/about to begin./Can't put me finger/on what lies

The Innocent Man: You Won't Believe Where Tommy Ward Is Today
Though John Grisham's 2006 book The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town, was originally inspired by the wrongful conviction of Ronald Williamson and his friend Dennis Fritz in the murder of cocktail waitress Debbie Carter, that wasn't the only murder that shook Ada, Ok, in the 1980s. Grisham's book focuses on the police investigation's mishandling of both cases, the second of which occurred just a few years after Carter's murder, when Ada resident Denice Haraway disappeared from her night shift as a cashier at a gas station and convenience store. A clerk at a store down the road, Karen Wise, reported seeing two men enter the store earlier on the night Haraway was abducted, and a newspaper published the composite sketches based on Wise's description, one of which resembled Ada resident Tommy Ward.

24-year-old high school dropout Tommy Ward had been arrested previously for misdemeanors - though

Brb, Gotta Go Add Lil Jon and the Kool-Aid Man's New Christmas Song to My Holiday Playlist
Lil Jon and the Kool-Aid Man are two names I never thought I'd be saying in the same sentence, especially under these circumstances, but here I am. The two, er, artists recently teamed up to get you into the holiday spirit with their new banger song, "All I Really Want for Christmas," and if you think that sounds crazy, just wait until you see the accompanying music video. The video opens with Lil Jon gazing out the window of a home decked out in Christmas decor while sipping Kool-Aid out of a glass mug. His drink of choice manages to summon the presence of the Kool-Aid man himself, and it's pretty much a wild ride from then on. There's a dancing Santa Claus, there's a rapping Kool-Aid man, and . . . just watch it for yourself.

Raise Your Hand If You've Been Personally Victimized by Frosty the Snowman's Melting Scene

Raise Your Hand If You've Been Personally Victimized by Frosty the Snowman's Melting Scene
The 1969 animated Frosty the Snowman film will go down in history as one of the best holiday films of all time, but it will also go down in history as one of the films that scarred me (and apparently many others) most as a child. I was probably around 7 or 8 when I first saw it on TV. My favorite Christmas movie at the time was How the Grinch Stole Christmas - I've always appreciated how deliciously petty he is, robbing people blind because they dare to be in a good mood - but I thought watching something "lighter" and "happier" with no "sad parts" would be a nice departure. Boy, was I wrong.

Frosty was just too good of a soul; he cared so much about Karen that he sacrificed his own holly, jolly life to keep her warm.

Spoiler alert: Frosty dies. He is viciously murdered by an evil magician named Professor Hinkle,

Ellen DeGeneres Details Lost Love, Coming Out Struggles and More in Emotional Netflix Special
Ellen DeGeneres is back where it all started, and some might argue back where she belongs—doing stand-up comedy. Her new Netflix special, Relatable, doesn't miss a step. It's her first time doing stand-up comedy in 15 years. If you loved DeGeneres' previous standup work, particularly her two HBO specials, Relatable will feel comfortable—and funny—to you. Sure, she's one of the most famous people in the world now, but her observational humor and message of relatability remain tops. Topics touched upon include junk drawers, food service employees who refuse to write down orders, trying on shoes, driving and bathroom attendants. But DeGeneres did get personal a number of times, touching on her...
